Just did that by accident. Dialing 9-1 before an outside call is dangerous. (Taken with Instagram)

When someone does that in our office all the phones make a loud beep and then all the other phones say the persons name who dialed 911. It’s a safety feature technically so you know whose on trouble…but it’s really just a “I’m a dumbass” feature.

The worst! I did that once at Ratner and tried to hang up before it went through. Well when I hung up, the phone immediately switched over to speaker (safety feature?) and the 911 operator was like “WHAT’S YOUR EMERGENCY???” Mortifying.

Our area code here is 919 and they just implemented 10 digit dialing a few months ago. This has been happening… a lot.
