In the winter I get pretty severe nose issues.

I won’t make you read this unless you want to and think you can help me, because it’s definitely TMI. If you want to continue:

OK so mostly in the winter (dry air) I get, for a lack of a better term, scabby, boogery things in my nose. They obstruct my breathing and hurt. Blowing my nose irritates it more, I think, but they just don’t go away. In the summer they are less annoying, but still there.

Does anyone deal with something like this? I’ve been to the doctor twice—once an urgent care whilst being seen for something else and he prescribed special nasal spray that didn’t do anything. Then I went to an ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) who just told me to shove some Neosporin up there. (Seriously.)

Help?

  1. jumpingfeetfirst answered: Neil Med Sinus rinse and nasogel. And a humidifier. Makes a huge difference in dryness.
  2. growingoldnotgrowingup answered: I have the EXACT same problem. Humidifer and vicks around my nose at night. Advil congestion and Afrin during the day.
  3. iamtallandawesome answered: humidifier! my cousin & his wife had these issues & got a nice humidifier for their bedroom. he said he did the neosporin/vaselline thing too
  4. heyyyyjk said: Saline spray or gel (I prefer the gel bc it lasts longer). And I use Vaseline or aquaphor at night.
  5. livingintraffic said: i got these so bad last year because i was on accutane.. and they still happen now. try a saline spray & the drs told me put aquaphor or vaseline up in there… but it always sounded too gross to me…but if you’re desperate - give it a whirl.
  6. megburns answered: chris get these too. the best thing he should do it completely leave it alone… he always messes with it and it never fully heals
  7. llmbandgcb answered: I read that while eating lunch even though you warned me. Anyway, the Neosporin thing sounds gross but it works. Also a humidifier at night.
  8. thatgirlisstacked answered: i get these type of things too. and I do just put neosporin on them and they heal up pretty quickly. but they are annoying & hurt.
  9. phenthouse answered: Try Ayr Saline Gel.
  10. brooklyntree answered: it could be staph… they can cause sores that get irritated by touch or blowing noses… but the ENT should have suggested antibiotics…
  11. thebluehour answered: Have you tried just a saline nose spray to (for lack of a better term) “soften thigs up” this way it hurts less to blow?
